I was so happy to see Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution and what he was able to accomplish in a short period of time. I was also happy to see that I was on the same "track" as Mr. Oliver. One of the goals of the "Vegan to Shrimp" Cookbook is to teach and inspire people to cook at home more often and to cook healthy, nutritious meals and snacks. The cookbook will also include recipes for chocolicious desserts, most of which well have alternative versions for lower fat and calories. We all need a luscious dessert occasionally!
It's not an easy task to develop enough recipes to fill a cookbook, especially when most of the recipes will be adaptable for all the foodies in your life. Whether they be Vegan, Vegetarian or Carnivore, my goal is to make the majority of the recipes adaptable for all, even at the same meal. The cookbook will be available as a PDF, "e" book right here.
I've decided "Vegan to Shrimp" needs to be the "Fanny Farmer" of the 21st century. The cookbook you go to for recipe ingredient substitutions, measurement conversions, an appetizer, main course or chocolicious desserts.
I'm currently working on a comprehensive guide to ingredient substitutions that include everything from spices to liquor. Does your recipe call for "Almond extract" and you only have "Amaretto liquor?" My guide tells you how to substitute an extract for a liquor and vice versa. Do you need to know how many cups are in that 8oz can? My guide tells you how many cups are in the can, how many tablespoons are in a cup, and gives you breakdown measurements for lots of dry ingredients as well as liquids.
Ever wonder how much a "dash" or a "pinch" really are? A "pinch" is equal to an 1/8 of a teaspoon, and a "dash" is equal to 1/16 of a teaspoon.
Thyme, Basil and Oregano are interchangeable herbs. If your recipe calls for one of these herbs and you don't have it, substitute any one of the other two. Experiment, have fun, be creative, cook at home.
A lot of the recipes in "Vegan to Shrimp" really are quick and easy, and not just in a studio kitchen, but at home, with the phone ringing and the kids asking, "when is dinner going to be ready, I need you to sign this, I'm hungry!"
We need to cook more fresh food for our families. I know you are tired, I know cooking every day, 3 meals a day, is BORING! I know the kids say "YUK" to most veggies. I've been there and I didn't always provide fresh food for my family. I'm combining years of experience to create a "one stop", "go to cookbook", with all the answers you need to grow your talents and help you develop your "signature" cooking style. You won't have to spend precious time "searching" through 1,000 and 1,000's of pages. You'll know you can go to your copy of "Vegan to Shrimp" and find the answer to your substitution question, or find a napkin folding idea, or a yummy recipe that is easily adaptable for your "carnivorous" or "vegan" guests. Let's not forget the chocolicious dessert recipes.
